Winchester Services (M3 J8–J9)
Winchester Services sits on the M3 between Junction 8 for the A303 and Junction 9 for the A34 and Winchester. It is run by Moto, and it is the last service area on the M3 before the motorway ends at the M27.
Two sides, and you cannot walk between them
Winchester has separate northbound and southbound sites with no public connection between them. This matters more than it sounds: some facilities are on one side only, so which direction you are travelling decides what you can actually use. Pret A Manger, for example, is listed on the southbound side only, while the Changing Places facility is on the northbound side.

The traffic around Winchester Services
The services sit on the quietest measured part of the M3. The stretch from Junction 9 down to Junction 8 carries 56,135 vehicles a day — less than half what the motorway carries at its Southampton end.
That changes the moment you pass Junction 9. South of it, where the A34 joins, the M3 carries 110,741 vehicles a day — it almost doubles across a single junction, and the lorry share rises from 6.3% to 9.4%. If you are stopping here before continuing south, you are stopping just before the busy half of the motorway starts.
Service area details are compiled from the operators’ own published information and were last checked on 1 September 2026. Facilities change — if something here is out of date, please tell us and we will correct it.
